Alex is a former print and television reporter, and is a regular contributor on sustainability issues to select publications.

He has co-authored and edited training manuals in Integrated Natural Resource Management and Local Economic Development, and is the author and editor of four independent publications on Cleaner Production in South African industry sectors and three on Cleaner Production in Namibian industrial sectors.

In 2005, 2006 and 2008, Alex was commissioned as a writer to the World Economic Forum's Africa Summit, held in Cape Town.
In 2006, Alex was commissioned by the national Department of Housing's Social Housing Foundation to write a series of 14 documentary articles for the public media on critical issues facing the social housing sector of South Africa.

In 2007, the World Conservation Union (IUCN) commissioned Alex to write a series of thirteen documentary stories on Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) throughout South and East Africa. The stories have been collated into various media on IWRM around the world.

Alex has written a series of opinion articles on climate change and corporate sustainability for leading South African daily newspaper, Business Day.
